Apprenticeship program officially launched with WSU Tech and Bombardier

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A new apprenticeship program has officially taken place with WSU Tech and Bombardier.

During the two-year program, students will complete hands-on training at the company’s Wichita site and will take classes at WSU Tech.

“More hands-on with airplanes. Most of them, you’ve got a lot smaller planes you’re dealing with, you know, big jets right away, so we kind of get both aspects as we get to work on small planes at school, and we get to come here and work on Global’s and Challengers and things like that,” WSU Tech apprentice Isaac Kuder said.

WSU Tech students will have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and aviation maintenance leaders. Once the apprenticeship is completed students will have obtained their FAA A&P certification.

“It’s not a production environment; it’s a service which is working on certified aircraft that have been flying around, so you get to see different things that’s not the same thing every day. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m blessed to be a part of it,” said WSU Tech apprentice Brandon Storey.

The student’s job classification will transition from apprentice to full-time A&P technician at Bombardier. This is a paid apprenticeship and is the first state-registered A&P technician apprenticeship program in Kansas.
